Wales & West Utilities is progressing well with its work to upgrade gas pipes in the Plymstock Road area of Plymouth.
The £750,000 work, which started last month, is essential to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses. Barring any engineering difficulties, it is due to finish in November.
Wales & West Utilities work in the Dean Cross Road area will complete by 6 June and the next phase of work will involve:
- Rolling multi-way temporary traffic lights, which will be used along Plymstock Road to its junction with Oreston Road. These will be in place from 30 May.
- Phased road closures will also be in place on the streets adjoining Plymstock Road. These will begin with Park Avenue which will be closed from 23 May. Other affected streets include Tamer Villas, Birchpond Road, Lower Saltram, Houldsworth Road and Hayes Road. Access will be managed by the Wales & West Utilities team during the working day.
Motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel.

We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
