Essential gas upgrade work continues in Bude

Posted on: 24/09/2020

Wales & West Utilities has started the second phase of its £164,000 gas pipe upgrade scheme in Bude.

The work, which started on Monday (21 September), is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are safe and warm for generations to come. It involves upgrading gas pipes along Stratton Road and, barring any engineering difficulties, is expected to be complete by the end of November.

To plan the work Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Cornwall County Council to make sure disruption is kept to a minimum. In agreement with the Council and local business owners, a one-way road closure will be in place from Stratton Road’s junction with Kings Hill to its junction with the roundabout adjacent to the retail park. This is necessary to maintain access for businesses and will be in place throughout the scheme.

We know that working on roads like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll be working as safely and as quickly as possible to make sure the work is completed in a timely fashion, while keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users.

Our engineers are following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and we would respectfully ask that you keep a 2m distance if passing our work site.

This work will not only keep the gas flowing safely and reliably today, it will also help make sure the gas network is fit for the future and can play its part in delivering reliable and affordable green energy.
