Elderly residents of Yealm Park in Plymouth are coming together to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee in style after Wales & West Utilities provided a donation for them to hold a garden party.

Keen to celebrate the momentous occasion, residents were delighted when gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities, offered funding to say thank you to residents for their support as the company worked to upgrade the gas pipes locally.

Thanks to the donation an organising committee has been busy working to plan the event, which will take place on Saturday 4 June. They will throw open the garden gates to put on an afternoon tea event for all 25 Yealm Park residents.

Organiser and resident of Yealm Park for over 13 years, Sylvia Frampton, said:

We really wanted to do something that marked the Queen’s Jubilee so when Wales & West Utilities said they would donate money we were thrilled.

We’re planning a proper afternoon tea, with sandwiches and scones, as well as music and laughter. Those residents that aren’t physically able to join us in the garden will have a home delivery so that they don’t miss out!

One resident is bringing his guitar and we hope the whole event will be a fitting tribute to the Queen and her years of service.

Wales & West Utilities continues to work across Plymouth to upgrade gas pipes. It is essential to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses today, and prepare the gas network to transport green gas like hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.

Wales & West Utilities Performance Manager David Murdoch said:

After completing our essential work in the area, we were thrilled to help Yealm Park residents come together and celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. We hope they will all be able to look back on it fondly for many years to come.
