Volunteers from Wales & West Utilities have joined forces with a local community group to carry out a litter pick in the Burry Port area.

The workers from the gas pipeline and emergency service came together with the 15 residents to help clean up the town as part of a project led by Keep Wales Tidy.

With Wales & West Utilities working to complete an essential gas pipe upgrade programme in the area, the company wanted to help support this project to improve the local environment.

Elaina Cook, Wales & West Utilities Priority Customer Service Manager, led the event and said:

“As a company we are keen to support the communities where we work. We know our gas pipe upgrade work in places like Burry Port can be disruptive, and so we wanted to do something to further benefit the local area and a litter pick seemed a good idea.”

Elaina put a call out for volunteers and was delighted with the number who came forward.

She continued:

“Between Wales & West Utilities and the local community group we had lots of volunteers which was fantastic. With many hands we spent the day working across the town to help improve the local environment and collected a huge amount of litter in the process.”

Wales & West Utilities is working in Pembrey and Burry Port to complete an £1million scheme to upgrade 5 kilometres of gas pipes. The work is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses today and in the future

County Councillor’s Amanda Fox and John James were involved in the litter pick and said:

“We would like to thank everyone who took part in the litter pick. It was a kind gesture from Wales & West Wales Utilities who have been working hard in our community.”
