Work to upgrade part of the gas network in the Bute Street area of Treorchy will begin next week.
The work is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come. Wales & West Utilities will start the work on 22 July on Bute Street, between the junctions of Dunraven Terrace and Windsor Street. Further work will be completed in Crichton Street, Glan-yr-Afon, Ynyswen Road and Bute Street and, barring any engineering difficulties, the project will finish towards the end of the year.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council to plan the work and it has been agreed that three-way traffic lights will be in place on Bute Street from 12 August – 15 November.
Clear signage will be in place and motorists are advised to allow extra travel time.
Wales & West Utilities Adam Smith is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:
We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
