St Mawgan Youth FC’s under 9 team has scored after receiving a donation from gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities.

The football team has received £300 in recognition of Wales & West Utilities colleague Justin Bond, who also coaches and manages the side, volunteering over 250 hours of his time each year.

Wales & West Utilities provided the funding as part of its commitment to support the communities it serves and by way of supporting the volunteer efforts of its colleagues.

The donation has been put to good use and allowed the team to purchase essential training equipment, including balls and goals, whilst they’ve also been able to kit out the players with training tops.

Justin, who’s worked for Wales & West Utilities since it was established in 2005, works across the whole of Cornwall. He is thrilled with the extra support and said:

To receive this money is fantastic and will go a long way to helping our young side. Most youth sports teams are run by local volunteers who give up a lot of their time and, so, to have the support from my employer is amazing.

We’ve been able to buy some new training gear which will benefit the side for years to come. Having this £300 donation also means that we won’t need to ask parents for their extra financial support - it really has made a great difference.

Bethan Jones, Head of Human Resources at Wales & West Utilities, said:

Our colleagues go the extra mile to support the communities in which they live, and work and we are always delighted to support their efforts.

Youth sport is mostly reliant on people giving up their time for the benefit of others and we’re thrilled to help Justin with his work in the local St Mawgan community.

We wish the team the very best for the rest of the season.
