Wales & West Utilities is starting work to upgrade the gas network in the Kings Road area of Plymouth.

The work starts on 7 June and is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses. It will involve upgrading gas pipes in the area and will finish by 20 August, keeping local people safe and warm for generations to come.

To keep disruption to a minimum, Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Plymouth City Council to plan the work. So that engineers and the local community are kept safe during the work, the work has been split into three phases and traffic management will be used throughout.

  • Phase 1 involves a lane closure between Stonehouse Bridge and the Stonehouse Bridge roundabout (7 June – 2 July).
  • Phase 2 – two-way traffic lights will be in place along Kings Road (outside entrance to the leisure club car park) These will be in place between 7 June – 26 July.
  • Phase 3 involves four-way traffic lights which will be in place on the junction of Kings Road, Devonport Road, Paradise Road and Fore Street. These will in place between 26 July – 20 August.

While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Plymouth. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future. 

We will work as safely and as quickly as possible to finish the work, whilst keeping inconvenience to a minimum for local people and road users. Our engineers are following all hygiene and social distancing guidelines and we would respectfully ask that you keep a 2m distance if passing our work site.
