Essential gas pipe upgrade work is due to begin in Newquay later this month.

Gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities is starting the £80,000 work in the Trevemper Road and Treninnick Hill areas of Newquay on the 25 November. The work will be ongoing until the end of January 2020.

The work, which is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are safe and warm for generations to come, involves rolling two-way traffic lights in place along Trevemper Road throughout the scheme.

The traffic management plan, which has been agreed with Cornwall Council, is in place to keep the local community, road users and Wales & West Utilities colleagues safe. Wales & West Utilities has been in communication with local businesses to alert them of the essential work and all businesses will be open, as usual.

We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Newquay. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
