A project to upgrade over a thousand metres of gas pipe in Abergavenny is now complete.
Wales & West Utilities, which started the work last November, has completed the essential £126,000 gas pipe investment work on time.
The scheme, which involved working in Charles Crescent, Charles Close and Llwynu Lane, will keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area long into the future.
Wales & West Utilities worked closely with Monmouthshire County Council during the essential work to plan the work and keep disruption to local people to a minimum.
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for the area, Francis Kirk, managed the work and said:
“We’re delighted to have finished this gas pipe upgrade work on time and would like to thank everyone for bearing with us.
“The work was essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.”
Wales & West Utilities, the gas emergency and pipeline service, brings energy to 7.5m people across Wales and the south west of England. If anyone smells gas, thinks they have a gas leak, or suspects carbon monoxide poisoning, they should call us on 0800 111 999 and our engineers will be there to help, day or night.
The company also has a multi-million pound, 30-year gas pipe investment programme which began in 2002. Old metal pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being upgraded to new long-lasting plastic pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years, to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and businesses now and in the future.
