Bill Frost, Wales & West Utilities Senior Operation Manager for Gloucester said:

“We are working in the Churchdown area of Gloucester to repair a leak on a gas pipe running beside the railway line."

“Our engineers have worked as safely and as quickly as they can to repair the leak, and in order to do this, we now need to turn the gas supply off to the local Chosen Hill school."

“The school relies on the gas network to provide cooking, hot water and heating facilities for its students, which has caused delays to our work as we worked with the school to arrange alternative solutions."

“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we now expect to be able to isolate the pipe and stop the leak this afternoon 17 July."

“We are aware that a number of residents have reported a smell of gas in the area. While the smell of gas from leaks can cause concern, the pipe in question is being monitored around the clock and does not pose any safety issues."

“We are sorry for any disruption our work has caused and appreciate the patience and understanding of local residents, as we balance the needs of the whole community who rely on a safe and reliable gas supply. Safety is always our top priority as we work to resolve the issue as quickly as possible for all.”
