A partnership between Wales & West Utilities and Menai Science Park (M-SParc) means homes in Gaerwen could be connected to the mains gas network for the first time.
Wales & West Utilities connected M-SParc to the gas network in October 2016, and now, dependent on demand from the local community, is exploring the possibility of extending the network to supply gas to homes and businesses in Gaerwen and the surrounding area.
Wales & West Utilities and M-SParc are holding an information day on 7 March at Esceifiog Centre, Gaerwen to speak to local people and businesses interested in connecting to the gas network. This will allow local people to understand the work required in bringing gas to the area – and the associated costs, whilst also giving them the opportunity to gather information on the many benefits of being connected to the mains network.
Nigel Winnan, Connections Manager for Wales & West Utilities, said:
“When we connected M-SParc to the gas network the pipes in the area were sized to be able to supply gas to homes and businesses in the Gaerwen area if there is enough demand for a scheme to proceed.
“Due to the way we’re funded, to start planning to extend the gas network we have to make sure that a high proportion of the local community is interested in connecting – so we’d urge people to come and see us. We’ll be able to let them know the benefits of connecting to the mains gas network – as well as the ways we could help them meet the cost of the new connections.
“We have been working closely with MS-Parc and the local community council and we’re really looking forward to meeting local people and talking about what we can offer.”

“We are pleased that the work we’ve had done to supply M-SParc with gas has been able to assist in the potential supply of gas to the village. We’d like to thank Wales & West Utilities for working with us and for considering the community when connecting us to the gas network.
“Working with the local community is important to M-SParc and we hope to attend the event in March along with our contractors, Willmott Dixon, in order to continue to provide updates on our development.”
Rhun ap Iorwerth, Assembly Member for Ynys Mon said:
“Mains gas offers many advantages, and here is an opportunity for Gaerwen to get connected. At the end of the day, it’s up to the people of Gaerwen, and if enough people want to make the investment, it’ll happen. I hope as many people as possible look at this offer seriously, and take advantage of the help on offer to decide if it’s for them.”
Part funded by European Regional Development Funding through the Welsh Government, the ambitious M-SParc project is preparing the infrastructure of the site,and construction of the first building has begun.

Golyga partneriaeth rhwng Wales & West Utilities a Pharc Gwyddoniaeth Menai (M-SParc) y gallai cartrefi yn Y Gaerwen gael eu cysylltu â rhwydwaith y prif gyflenwad nwy am y tro cyntaf.
Fe wnaeth Wales & West Utilities gysylltu Parc Gwyddoniaeth Menai (M-Sparc) â’r rhwydwaith nwy ym mis Hydref 2016, ac maent yn awr, yn dibynnu ar y galw gan y gymuned leol, yn ystyried y posibilrwydd o ymestyn y rhwydwaith i gyflenwi nwy i gartrefi a busnesau yn Y Gaerwen a’r ardal o amgylch.
Mae Wales & West Utilities a Pharc Gwyddoniaeth Menai (M-Sparc) yn cynnal diwrnod gwybodaeth ar y 7fed o Fawrth yng Nghanolfan Esceifiog, Y Gaerwen rhwng 2yp a 7yh i siarad â phobl a busnesau lleol sydd â diddordeb mewn cysylltu â’r rhwydwaith nwy. Bydd hyn yn caniatáu i bobl leol ddeall y gwaith sydd ei angen i ddod â nwy i’r ardal - a’r costau cysylltiedig - gan hefyd roi’r cyfle iddynt gasglu gwybodaeth am y buddion niferus o gael eu cysylltu â rhwydwaith y prif gyflenwad.
