Wales & West Utilities, which has been upgrading gas pipes in the Honiton area of Devon since April, is returning to the area to complete the final section of work.

Starting on 22 October and taking five weeks, the work is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are kept safe and warm for generations to come.

Ahead of the work starting the gas pipeline and emergency service has been working with Devon County Council to keep disruption to a minimum. It has been agreed that a road closure and traffic lights will be in place for the duration of the work. Rosemount Lane will be closed and two-way traffic lights in place on the Rosemount Lane junction of Sidmouth Road. Diversion routes will be clearly signposted.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller Assistant for the scheme, Roxanne Whittaker, explains:

“We’ve made good progress on our essential work in Honiton. Now we need to return to the area to complete this final section. We really appreciate the patience and support of the local community and road users whilst we carry out this work.

“We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible.
