Wales & West Utilities is investing £800,000 in Penarth to replace more than 6.5km of old metal gas pipes with new, longer lasting plastic ones.

The work is being done by our contract partner Amec Foster Wheeler and started in February. We anticipate it will be finished by the end of August. This essential work will make sure the area continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply now and into the future.

We will be working on Redlands Road for 8 weeks from Monday 13 June. So our colleagues, road users and the local community are kept safe, there will be traffic lights in place while we are working. This has been agreed with Vale of Glamorgan Council and we have worked closely with them to keep disruption to a minimum for residents and road users while we do this essential work.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for Wales, Francis Kirk, said:

“We know the effect that this sort of work can have on communities, and we will have a team on site throughout the project. Where possible we will be working weekends to make sure that we get the job finished as safely and as quickly as possible, and to minimise disruption for local people and road users.

“The work on Redlands Road is part of our gas pipe investment programme for the area, essential to make sure homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply now and into the future.”
