Who are we?

We are a gas distribution business that services the gas infrastructure across Wales and the south-west of England. We serve our customers and communities with safe, reliable, and affordable energy services whilst investing to create a sustainable future to deliver our carbon-free vision for 2050.

What we’re looking for?

We’re looking for someone to assist the HS&E Senior Manager to deliver on Health, Safety & Environmental (HS&E) legislative compliance, whilst striving for continuous improvement in the areas of HS&E performance.

You’ll be responsible for providing a comprehensive HS&E advisory service, delivering a high level of support to Operations and the wider business to reduce risk to colleagues, contractors and the general public.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Manage a team of HS&E Advisors, including administrative and contract resources to enable the provision of technical expertise, advice and support to Operations and the wider business as required.
  • Manage the review, development and/or update of WWU HS&E procedures, taking account of new or changing legislation, regulatory and company requirements.
  • Provide support in formulating and developing action plans to continually improve HS&E management control and performance where necessary, throughout Operations.
  • Support the management of WWU operational HS&E policies and procedures, providing advice and guidance to WWU managers, supervisors and employees to ensure a consistent understanding and implementation.
  • Support the application of near miss/accident/incident reporting, including the investigation, communication and close out of lessons learned.
  • Support, review and develop the company H&S risk assessment process.

You can read a full job description here.

You’ll need to have:

  • Qualified as an experienced health and safety professional (CMIOSH status preferred, or with qualifications that enable the candidate to work towards CMIOSH status).
  • Supervisory experience an advantage; incorporated gas engineer or manager status or working towards it is desirable.
  • Ability to demonstrable effective senior stakeholder engagement; bridging the gap between HS&E and other business functions.
  • Skilled in assessment, inspection and audit of site management and working practices (inc. hazard identification).
  • Skilled in behavioural safety coaching; effective in taking more formal intervention to ensure compliance where necessary.
  • Proficient in accident and/or incident investigations, producing detailed reports which identify immediate and underlying causes, offering recommendations for action to ensure compliance with H,S&E legislation and guidance.

We would also love to hear about anything else you feel you could add or bring to the role!

As we are a safety critical organisation, all offers of employment are subject to pre-employment drug & alcohol screening.
