Francis Kirk, Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for East Wales said:
“We were planning to temporarily close Stow Hill in Newport on Wednesday from Clifton Road to Charles Street to complete essential gas pipe replacement work. In advance of that we have been carrying out preparatory work on Victoria Place. This afternoon our camera surveys of the gas pipes in the area found that we do not have to replace as much of the pipe as we anticipated so a road closure on Stow Hill is no longer needed.
“We appreciate that our work can be inconvenient, and are happy to let commuters in Newport know that our gas pipe replacement work in the area will not now affect Stow Hill.
“Wales & West Utilities, the gas emergency and pipeline service, brings energy to 7.5m people across Wales and the south west of England. If anyone smells gas, thinks they have a gas leak, or suspects carbon monoxide poisoning, they should call us on 0800 111 999 and our engineers will be there to help, day or night.”
