Wales & West Utilities is working to replace 2 kilometres of old metal gas pipes with new plastic ones in the Radyr area of Cardiff.

This essential work is to make sure the area continues to receive a safe and reliable gas supply now and into the future. Most of work is on residential side streets starting early August and it is anticipated to be complete by the end of November 2015.

As part of the work, Wales & West Utilities needs to connect the new pipes to the existing gas pipe in Heol Isaf. To do this work, Wales & West Utilities will be working on the junction of Maes Yr Awel and Heol Isaf from Monday 17 August for approximately 7 days, before moving to the junction of Park Road and Heol Isaf for a further 7 days.

So that the local community, road users, and the workforce is kept during the essential scheme, it has been agreed with Cardiff City Council that two-way traffic lights will be in operation on Heol Isaf whilst this connection work is taking place.

This gas connection work has been planned to coincide with the school holidays to minimise disruption as much as possible for commuting traffic.

Access for residents will be maintained at all times.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller, Francis Kirk, said: “We would like to thank people for bearing with us while the work is carried out and reassure people that we will complete the work as quickly as possible.”

This work is part of the company’s multi-million-pound 30-year mains replacement programme, across Wales and the south west, which began in 2002. Old metal pipes within 30 metres of buildings are being replaced with new long-lasting plastic pipes with a lifespan of more than 80 years.
