Wales & West Utilities strengthens commitment to Welsh language
In the lead up to the National Eisteddfod, Wales & West Utilities is strengthening its commitment to supporting and using the Welsh language with the introduction of a new Welsh Language Development Plan. The gas emergency and pipeline service company has also taken the opportunity to refresh its existing Welsh Language Scheme.
Developed in collaboration with the Welsh Language Commissioner's office, the development plan sets out a series of practical actions that will go further to embed the Welsh language across the business over the next three years.
The refreshed approach reflects Wales & West Utilities’ ongoing commitment to the Welsh language and its pledge to deliver accessible services for customers and communities across Wales, while creating more opportunities for colleagues to use their Welsh in the workplace.
The development plan includes a range of initiatives designed to strengthen the organisation's use of Welsh, including increasing the visibility of the language across communications, supporting colleagues to use Welsh in the workplace, and continuing to consider the language in the planning and delivery of services.
Gwyn Thomas, Communication and Customer Senior Manager at Wales & West Utilities said:

“We have worked in partnership with the Welsh Language Commissioners office to co-create our Development Plan and update our Welsh Language Scheme which demonstrates our long-term commitment to ensuring Welsh is valued throughout our organisation.”
The updated Welsh Language Scheme and Development Plan build on the company's existing commitment to bilingual working and reflect its ambition to continually improve the experience of Welsh-speaking customers, stakeholders and employees.
Gwyn continued:
“Our teams have worked hard to get to this point and, now that we have these tools on place, we will continue to review progress against the development plan, ensuring Welsh remains an integral part of our culture.”

Mae Wales & West Utilities yn cryfhau ymrwymiad i’r iaith Gymraeg
Yn y cyfnod sy’n arwain at yr Eisteddfod Genedlaethol, mae Wales & West Utilities yn cryfhau’u hymrwymiad i gefnogi ac i ddefnyddio’r iaith Gymraeg gyda chyflwyno Cynllun Datblygu’r Gymraeg newydd. Cymerodd y cwmni gwasanaeth argyfwng a phiblinelli nwy hefyd y cyfle i adnewyddu’u Gynllun Iaith Gymraeg presennol.
Ac yntau wedi’i ddatblygu mewn cydweithrediad â swyddfa Comisiynydd y Gymraeg, mae’r cynllun datblygu yn amlinellu cyfres o weithredoedd annibynnol fydd yn gwneud mwy i wreiddio’r iaith Gymraeg ledled y busnes dros y tair blynedd nesaf.
Mae’r ymagwedd adnewyddedig yn adlewyrchu ymrwymiad parhaus Wales & West Utilities i’r iaith a hefyd ei addewid i gyflawni gwasanaethau hygyrch i’r cwsmeriaid a’r cymunedau ledled Cymru, gan greu mwy o gyfleoedd i gydweithwyr i ddefnyddio’u Cymraeg yn y gweithle.
Mae’r cynllun datblygu yn cynnwys ystod o fentrau a gynlluniwyd i gryfhau defnydd y sefydliad o’r Gymraeg, yn cynnwys cynyddu gwelededd yr iaith ledled cyfathrebu, cynorthwyo cydweithwyr i ddefnyddio’r Gymraeg yn y gweithle, a pharhau i ystyried yr iaith wrth gynllunio a chyflawni gwasanaethau.
Dywedodd Gwyn Thomas, Uwch-reolwr Cyfathrebu a Chwsmeriaid yn Wales & West Utilities:
"Mae’r iaith Gymraeg yn rhan hanfodol o hunaniaeth a diwylliant Cymru, ac fel y cwmni sy’n gweithredu’r rhwydwaith dosbarthu nwy ledled Cymru, rydym yn falch o fod â’n rhan yn cynorthwyo parhad ei thwf.
“Rydym wedi gweithio mewn partneriaeth â swyddfa Comisiynwyr y Gymraeg i gyd-greu’n Cynllun Datblygu a diweddaru’n Cynllun Iaith Gymraeg, ac mae’n dangos ein hymrwymiad cyfnod hir i sicrhau y gwerthfawrogir y Gymraeg drwy’n sefydliad i gyd.”
Mae’r Cynllun Iaith Gymraeg a ddiweddarwyd a’r Cynllun Datblygu yn adeiladu ar ymrwymiad presennol y cwmni i weithio dwyieithog, ac mae’n adlewyrchu’i uchelgais i wella’n barhaus profiad cwsmeriaid, rhanddeiliaid a gweithwyr sy’n siarad Cymraeg.
Meddai Gwyn gan barhau:
“Mae ein timau wedi gweithio’n galed i gyrraedd y man hwn, a chan bod gennym yn awr yr offer hyn ar waith, byddwn yn parhau i adolygu cynnydd yn erbyn y cynllun datblygu, gan sicrhau bod y Gymraeg yn parhau yn rhan annatod o’n diwylliant.”
Ychwanegodd Efa Gruffudd Jones, Comisiynydd y Gymraeg:
“Croesawaf ymroddiad Wales & West Utilities i gryfhau’u darpariaeth drwy’r Gymraeg. Mae’r cynllun datblygu hwn yn dangos ymrwymiad pendant i sicrhau bod yr iaith Gymraeg yn dod yn rhan werthfawr o’r gwasanaethau y mae’r cwmni’n eu darparu. Edrychaf ymlaen at weld ei effaith gadarnhaol ar argaeledd a’r defnydd o wasanaethau Cymraeg yn y dyfodol."
