Posted: 14/07/2026

Wales & West Utilities colleagues are celebrating after receiving the 13th annual Gold Award from Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA).

The Gold Award - the ultimate symbol of achievement in health and safety - is awarded for companies which have demonstrated industry-leading health and safety performance and commitment.

Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England. It transports gas through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes and connects new homes and businesses, whilst working to upgrade the gas network so it’s safe today and ready to transport green gases like hydrogen and biomethane.

The RoSPA Awards celebrate organisations that demonstrate unwavering dedication to protecting lives and promoting a culture of safety across their operations.

Rob Long, Chief Operating Officer at Wales & West Utilities, said:

“Achieving the RoSPA Gold Award for thirteen consecutive years is a fantastic achievement and reflects the continued commitment of our employees and partners to maintaining the highest standards of health and safety.

“Keeping our people, customers and communities safe is at the heart of everything we do. From responding to gas emergencies and supporting vulnerable customers to raising awareness of carbon monoxide risks, safety remains our top priority.

“We are proud of the role we play in helping keep homes and businesses across Wales and the south west of England safe and warm, while continuing to deliver a reliable energy network that supports a greener, more sustainable future.”

The RoSPA Health and Safety Awards competition is the largest occupational health and safety awards programme in the UK. The awards are one of the most prestigious and recognised schemes in the world with almost 2,000 entries every year, nearly 50 countries and a reach of over 7 million employees.
