Helpful volunteers from Wales & West Utilities have been out in force in Porthcawl undertaking a litter pick across the town.

The workers from the gas emergency and pipeline service teamed up with Keep Wales Tidy to organise the event which saw over 17 bags of rubbish collected in just a two-hour period.

The event, which centred on the beach and in New Road, was undertaken as part of Wales & West Utilities commitment to give back to the communities in which it works.

Elaina Cook, Wales & West Utilities Priority Customer Service Manager, led the event and said:

“We always seek to make a positive impact to the communities in which we work and so were delighted to run the litter pick event in Porthcawl.

“We had a fantastic response in our call for volunteers and are delighted to have collected so much litter in a small amount of time.  We hope those that live and visit the area will benefit from a cleaner town.”

Wales & West Utilities has been working in Porthcawl to complete a gas pipe upgrade scheme which is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses today and in the future.

Elaina continued:

“We know our gas pipe upgrade work can sometimes be disruptive and we wanted to do something to give back to further benefit the local area. We are happy to have lent a helping hand to the people of Porthcawl.”

Chris Partridge, Regional Manager from Keep Wales Tidy added:

“It is great that Wales & West Utilities have come out to help improve the local environment with this litter pick. It is also wonderful that they have chosen to support Keep Wales Tidy's charitable aims.”

Wales & West Utilities, the gas emergency and pipeline service that serves the south west of England and Wales, puts customers at the heart of the business and is rated the top utility company in the UK for customer service. The company also has a multi-million pound, 30-year gas pipe investment programme which began in 2002.
