Wales & West Utilities has completed its work to upgrade over 3.4 kilometres of gas pipes in the Meliden Road area of Prestatyn.

The gas emergency and pipeline service has been working on the £680,000 investment work since April and, thanks to partnership working with Denbighshire County Council, has been able to extend its work to complete additional upgrade work as part of the same project scope.

The work was part of Wales & West Utilities £2 million investment in Denbighshire’s gas network over the course of the next two years which will help to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses long into the future. The gas emergency and pipeline service worked with Denbighshire County Council to plan the work, which involved traffic management in the area.

Wales & West Utilities Simon Williams managed this gas pipe upgrade work. He said:

We are pleased to have completed this essential work ahead of schedule and would like to thank local people for bearing with us.

We have worked closely with Denbighshire County Council to plan this work and have been able to complete additional works under the same project, whilst the Council has commissioned resurfacing works which will benefit the local community.

While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Prestatyn. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
