Our 10th anniversary

Posted on: 16/07/2015

I posted in my first blog on our great new website about our 10th anniversary, and how, despite early doubts, we have endured and prospered as an independent gas network - delivering excellent customer service with safety, reliability and value for money at the heart of everything we do.

I thought I’d post a second blog about the lighter side of our anniversary, and how we have been celebrating across our network - thanking colleagues for their hard work in replacing gas pipes, responding to emergency call outs from customers, and connecting new customers to our network.

I and my executive colleagues are visiting depots from Wrexham to Redruth, acknowledging the vital role our colleagues, customers, partners and the local community have played in our success. Colleagues at depots have been celebrating with buffets, balloons and of course, cakes - it is a birthday after all! It’s been great just to speak to colleagues about the work we’ve done over the last ten years, and what we have planned for the future.

At the end of June we also held an event at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in Cardiff to thank partners, suppliers and other stakeholders for their support over the last ten years. It was a great opportunity to thank those who have contributed to our success and to talk about where we go next.

We are a long term business constantly designing for the future. We have invested substantially in people over the past ten years and will continue to do so - recruiting and training our people to make sure we have the skilled colleagues we need for the ongoing challenges we will face. We’re also playing our part in improving what people think of utilities, by working hard to give customers a reliable gas service and peace of mind that we are spending money wisely based on what will give the very best value every time.

We’re also innovating on things like ‘green gas’.  This is where independents are producing biogas from the digestion of agricultural waste and putting it into network. We have more biogas connections than any other network, and will have 15 connections by the end of this year. We are regularly applauded as one of the most ‘user friendly’ networks by the green energy community. So we’re not only designing for our own future, but contributing to the future of the gas industry as a whole.

We’re absolutely committed to growing on our successes-continuing to provide excellent customer service and supporting more customers to connect to our network. It’s been a challenging but hugely rewarding first ten years and we are looking forward to the future with optimism. We look forward to more cake and celebrations on our 20th birthday!
