Llantwit Major RFC scores with kind hearted donation
Llantwit Major RFC is celebrating a £500 boost from Wales & West Utilities, which has helped deliver essential equipment to strengthen the club’s junior rugby setup.
The funding has allowed the club to purchase essential training equipment, including balls, tackle pads, and other key kit needed to support the development for all 180 youngsters involved in the Under 7’s through to Under 18 sides. The donation comes as Wales & West Utilities continues its work to upgrade gas pipes in the local area.
Mark Rees, Vice Chairman of Llantwit Major RFC, said:
“As a club we see our numbers grow year on year, and our volunteers do a fantastic job of dedicating their time to coaching, but with the large numbers using the equipment, it can get damaged over time.
“We are mindful of passing such costs onto our families so when Wales & West Utilities agreed to lend a helping hand we were over the moon.
“This donation means a great deal and we are very grateful. Having the support of Wales & West Utilities has enabled us to purchase equipment which will make a real difference to our training sessions.”
Wales & West Utilities Claire Reape is managing the gas upgrade work and said:
“We are proud to support the communities where we work and with the club situated at the heart of the Llantwit Major community, it made sense for us to donate to enable them to make a difference to the hundreds of youngsters engaged in grassroot sport.
“We hope this donation will continue to benefit the club for many years.”
The gas pipe upgrade project is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come. It forms part of Wales & West Utilities work to invest over £3.6 in Llantwit Major to upgrade 12 kilometres of gas pipes.
Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England. We don’t sell gas; we transport it through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes.
If you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately. Trained engineers are available 24/7 to respond and keep you safe.
