Wales & West Utilities alongside other gas distribution networks has responded to today's UK Government announcement on net zero and hydrogen policy.
A spokesperson for the gas distribution networks said:
The government’s continued commitment to forging a hydrogen economy in the UK is welcome – we know that if we want to get to net zero in a realistic and practical way, hydrogen will be part of the solution.
The blending decision in particular is key – a 20% hydrogen blend would remove 6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year, the equivalent of taking 2.5 million cars off the road, and the decision gives certainty to investors in production to help meet the UK government's targets.
We will continue to support the government with the necessary evidence to enable a future decision on hydrogen for heating, and exploring how hydrogen can replace the critical functions gas serves now, preserving thousands of businesses and creating hundreds of new jobs.”
