The work, which starts next Monday (28 January), will take approximately 11 weeks to complete and will involve upgrading 2.7km of old metal pipes to new plastic ones to make sure that the gas keeps flowing to heat local homes and power local businesses for years to come.
To plan the work Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with North Somerset Council and it has been agreed that to keep the local community, road users and colleagues safe whilst work is ongoing, two-way traffic lights will be in place at various locations along the A370. A temporary speed restriction of 30mph will also be in place throughout the scheme.
The work will start on the A370 from the junction of West Rolstone Road, and will continue along the A370, working towards and finishing at the junction opposite the 'Full Quart pub'.
Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller, Barry Sale, is managing the work and said:
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
“We’re very aware of the effect that our work can have on communities and commuters. We’ve worked closely with North Somerset Council to plan this work and we’ll be working as safely and as quickly as possible to keep disruption to a minimum.”
