This week Wales & West Utilities will be visiting town centre businesses to make sure their needs are understood ahead of its £300,000 gas pipe investment programme which will start in Yeovil town centre in the New Year.

The essential work, which will make sure that local homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply to the area for years to come, will involve replacing 850 metres of old metal gas pipes with new plastic ones and will start on 16 January 2017. It is expected to be complete within 12 weeks.

Ahead of the work, Wales & West Utilities colleagues will be vising businesses to ensure that all individual needs are understood and can be catered for to make sure that it’s business as usual for the duration of the scheme.

In planning the work, and to make sure there is the minimum disruption to the local community and road users, Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Somerset County Council and the scheme has been split into four phases. This will involve working along Princes Street, Church Street, Court Ash, North Lane, Park Road and Clarence Street and partial road closures will be in place whilst work takes place.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller for Somerset, Barry Sale, said:

“Working in town centre areas is never an easy task and this is why we’re taking the time to speak to local businesses to ensure that trade deliveries can be accommodated throughout the scheme.

“This scheme is essential to support the area into the future. Replacing old metal gas pipes is a complex job and depending on what we find when we start work, our plans may need to change. We will make sure local people are kept updated of our progress.

“We would like to thank local people in advance for their understanding while we do this essential work.”
