Wales & West Utilities is progressing with its work to upgrade the gas pipes in Welshpool, with work along Brook Street to take place ahead of a major road resurfacing project.

The work, which is ongoing until March next year, has been planned with Powys County Council, which is coordinating efforts with utilities ahead of its work to improve and resurface Brook Street.

It has been agreed with the Council that the work on Brook Street will be ongoing until 26 May and during this time temporary multi-way traffic lights will be in place.

The works are vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come.

Wales & West Utilities Adam Smith is managing this work and said:

“We are working with the Council on the overall project, but the essential work on Brook Street is necessary so that we can complete this section ahead of their programme.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
