In Progress

Wales & West Utilities is undertaking urgent work to replace a gas pipe in the Cheddar Road area of Wedmore to ensure the continued safety and reliability of the gas network for the local community.

The emergency work will begin tomorrow (4 June) and, all going to plan, will be complete within two weeks. Wales & West Utilities has agreed this work with Somerset Council and to keep workers safe, it is necessary to close Cheddar Road, B3151, by the Clewer Bridge. A diversion route will be clearly signposted for all motorists, whilst it has been agreed that school buses will be permitted through the closure in the mornings only. Motorists are advised to allow sufficient travel time.

Wales & West Utilities Simon Lee is managing this work and said:

“This work is time‑critical and essential to ensure gas continues to be delivered safely to homes and businesses in the area.

“We recognise the importance of maintaining a safe and reliable gas supply, and we appreciate that carrying out work in locations like this can cause disruption. We would like to thank the local community for their patience while we undertake this work and to assure them that our teams will be working as quickly and safely as possible to complete the work, and reopen the road.

“We ask motorists to follow the signed diversions while these works are in progress.”
