Wales & West Utilities is progressing well with its project to upgrade the gas pipes in the Talbot Road area of Talbot Green.
The work has been planned in conjunction with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, and it has been agreed that Talbot Road, between the junctions of Danygraig Drive and Heol y Gyfraith, will be closed to traffic from 21 September – 4 October. The gas emergency and pipeline service has been carefully working with all stakeholders and will be funding a shuttle bus service to maintain the bus service for the local community during this time.
A clearly signposted diversion route will be in place and motorists are directed to use this.
The work, which began at the beginning of August, is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come. All going to plan, it will finish at the end of October.
The project is part of Wales & West Utilities work to invest over £1.4 over the next year to upgrade gas pipes in the area. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see nearly five kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the area as the company upgrades the critical energy infrastructure in the area to benefit local customers.
Wales & West Utilities Andrew Coleman is managing this work and said:
“This work involves investing in our gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve.
"We'll be keeping the local community updated on these works and working with the local authority, and other key partners, to keep disruption to a minimum. We ask motorists to strictly follow the traffic management signage to keep the traffic flowing, and our colleagues safe as they complete this work.
“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day. While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.”
