What we’re looking for?

We’ve got an exciting opportunity for a Trainee / Graduate Pipeline and Infrastructure Designer to support the design, assessment, and modification of natural gas pipelines and associated station infrastructure in accordance with UK standards and regulations.

This Trainee / Graduate role offers hands-on experience in the energy sector with a focus on maintaining, upgrading, and adapting existing gas network assets to meet evolving operational and safety requirements.

We’ll trust you to:

  • Assist with the preparation and review of technical drawings, design calculations, and documentation for pipeline and station modification projects
  • Participate in site surveys, data collection, and as-built verifications
  • Delivery of the continual improvement in management of gas distribution assets to deliver a safe, reliable gas network at the least whole life cost
  • Help to ensure designs are safe, cost-effective, and compliant with environmental and health and safety regulations

You’ll need to have working knowledge of:

Essential:

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or related engineering discipline accredited by the Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers (IGEM), Institution of Gas Engineers and Managers, the Institution of Mechanical Engineers or the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
  • Demonstrable experience designing natural gas transmission or distribution pipeline systems
  • Takes pride in work and is motivated to deliver high performance ensuring safe working practices.
  • Is a strong team player with excellent listening, communication, influencing and collaboration skills
  • Willingness to learn and work in both office and site environments.
  • Is self-starting and performance focused.
  • Is dedicated to achieving your chartership whilst building a career in engineering or sustainability and environment. 
  • Strong interest in the gas and energy infrastructure sector.

 

Desirable:

  • Awareness of UK gas industry standards (e.g., IGEM/TD/1, IGEM/TD/13).
  • Knowledge of pipeline materials, stress analysis, or flow dynamics.
  • Previous internship or experience in utilities or infrastructure projects.
  • Good understanding of technical drawing principles (AutoCAD or similar software is a plus).
