Work to upgrade over 1,750 metres of gas pipes in the Bishops Hull Road and Silk Mills Road area of Taunton is progressing well.
Gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities, started the work at the end of March and, barring any engineering difficulties, the project will complete in September. It is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.
Wales & West Utilities continues to liaise with Somerset Council to plan the work. Due to increased traffic in the Bishops Hull Road area, it has been agreed that works on the Wellington Road roundabout and Waterfield Drive will be brought forward to 26 June. It is hoped these works will be ongoing for three weeks, after which the one-way section to the north of Waterfield Drive will be repositioned, easing traffic on the A38 Wellington Road.
Wales & West Utilities Roxanne Whittaker is managing the work and said:
We are making good progress with the project and would like to thank the local community and motorists for their patience whilst we undergo the project.
We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.
