Swansea gas works progresses

Posted: 01/11/2019

Gas emergency and pipeline service, Wales & West Utilities is progressing its work in the Mumbles Road area of Swansea.

The work is essential to keep the gas flowing to heat homes and power businesses in the area so that people are safe and warm for generations to come. It involves working in the Mumbles Road area from 4 November – 6 December, before continuing again in January for a further 8 weeks. The shutdown over the Christmas period has been agreed with Swansea City Council so that Christmas trade isn’t affected adversely.

During this time two-way traffic lights will be in place between 8.30am - 5pm. The traffic management plan, which has been agreed with Swansea City Council, is in place to keep the local community, road users and Wales & West Utilities colleagues safe.

Wales & West Utilities has been in communication with local businesses to alert them of the essential work and all businesses will be open, as usual.

Wales & West Utilities Programme Controller, Adam Evans, is managing the work and said:

“We know that working on roads like these is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. “While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Mumbles. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.”
