Southdown Road gas works complete
Posted: 26/11/2025

Work to upgrade the gas pipes in the Southdown Road area of Bath has been completed by Wales & West Utilities.

The project, which started at the end of August, was vital to ensure gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area, helping to keep people warm for decades to come. The gas emergency and pipeline service liaised with the local community over the plans, whilst also working with Bath & North East Somerset Council to plan the project, and it was agreed that traffic management would be in place throughout.

Wales & West Utilities' Simon Lee managed the upgrade work and said:

“We would like to thank the local community for bearing with us whilst we completed this essential work.

While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner, or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”

Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England. We don’t sell gas; we transport it through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes.
