Penzance gas upgrade wraps up, and residents thanked with free parking
Posted: 08/12/2025

To thank the people of Penzance for their patience whilst essential gas upgrade work took place, Wales & West Utilities is offering a free day of parking in the town.

To thank residents, businesses and visitors for their patience during the works, Wales & West Utilities will be covering the cost of parking on Saturday 13 December in both the Harbour (Wharfside) and Clarence Street car parks.

Engineers have been busy replacing ageing gas pipes since October to ensure homes and businesses continue to receive a safe and reliable gas supply for decades to come, and work was finished last week.

Wales & West Utilities Natalie Raphael managed the project and said:

“We’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the people and businesses of Penzance for their support and understanding while this essential work was undertaken. Completing the project on time was a priority for us, and we’re pleased to be able to give something back to the community through a day of free parking ahead of the festive season.

“While much of the gas network is underground and unseen, it plays a central role in daily life - whether it’s heating your home, cooking a meal or having a hot bath. This upgrade ensures a safe, reliable gas supply today and helps prepare the network for transporting green gases in the future.”

Further gas network upgrade work in Penzance is planned for 2026.

Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service for Wales and the south west of England, keeping energy flowing to more than 7.5 million people. The company transports — but does not sell — gas through a network of over 35,000 kilometres of underground pipes.

If you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately. Engineers are on hand 24/7 to respond and keep you safe.
