Little Mill, Pontypool gas pipe upgrade
Wales & West Utilities is shortly working to carry out essential work to replace a section of gas pipe in the Little Mill area of Pontypool.
The work, to repair a gas leak on the main, will be ongoing between 9 - 11 January and will require a closure on the slip road from Berthon Road, going onto Usk Road (A472). A diversion route will be in place, but motorists are advised that this is approximately 30 miles.
The work is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area, helping to keep people warm for decades to come.
Wales & West Utilities' Adam Evans is managing this work and said:
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“Our engineers will work as safely and as quickly as we can, and barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect to complete our work and reopen the road within three days.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
