A lifesaving defibrillator has been installed outside Bridgend Community Outreach Centre after a host of funding was forthcoming from organisations with links to the area.
Outreach Manager, Rebecca Lloyd, set a fundraising target to allow the Centre to purchase the potentially lifesaving device, and has been overwhelmed with the funding support. With donations falling just short of the target, local charity supporter Jeanie Beasley turned to her employer, Wales & West Utilities, which in turn donated £400 to the cause.
The publicly accessible defibrillator is now available 24/7 on Market Street and, upon use, will give a high-energy electric shock to the heart of someone in cardiac arrest.
Wales & West Utilities Transport Officer Jeanie Beasley has been a dedicated supporter of charitable work throughout her local community. She explains:
I have often supported the work of the Outreach Centre, which provides such vital help and support to members of our local Bridgend community.
Defibrillators are lifesaving, and you never know when one might be needed, so when I learned of the desire to install one locally, I wanted to do all I could to help. I turned to my employer, and they were more than happy to lend a helping hand to get this project off the ground.
Wales & West Utilities provided the funding as part of its commitment to support the communities it serves and by way of supporting the voluntary fund-raising efforts of its colleagues. Other donors to the defibrillator include: Holt JCB Ltd, CBL Ltd & FTM Bridgend.
Bridgend Community Outreach Centre Manager, Rebecca Lloyd, said:
I am delighted that so many people and organisations came forward to play a part in providing this defibrillator. On behalf of the local community, I’d like to say a particular thank you to Jeanie and Wales & West Utilities, which helped get us over the line!
These lifesaving devices are so important to have available locally, especially when time is of the essence in emergencies. We are proud to host this defibrillator at our premises, and its presence will give added peace of mind for everyone.
