Kingskerswell hopes to attract more wildlife after donation

Wales & West Utilities is hoping to see an increase in wildlife on the banks of Kingskerswell’s Aller Brook after the company donated £1,000 to plant flower strips and support the number of pollinating insects in the area.
After working to upgrade gas pipes across the area for some time, the gas emergency service was only too happy to answer the call from Kingskerswell Action Group (KAG) Chair Roger Jones for support.
Working together, Wales & West Utilities donated over £1,000 to purchase and plant the pollinators. The initiative was part of Wales & West Utilities' commitment to improve the areas in which it works and to help improve local biodiversity. The donation was linked to an investment project which involved upgrading gas pipes across the village to help keep the gas flowing now, and to prepare for the use of greener gases, including biomethane and hydrogen in the future.
Aaron Taylor, Wales & West Utilities First Line Manager, explains:
“We have worked in Kingskerswell for some time and liaised with Mr Jones throughout the project. When he approached us for support, we were delighted to do something that would have a lasting positive impact on wildlife and provide more beautiful spaces across the area.”
Wales & West Utilities' donation has supported the planting of pollinators, boosting and providing a diverse ecosystem that benefits local pollinating insects and animals, enhancing the local environment, and contributing to community wellbeing. The project boosts the volunteer efforts of the local community, who work hard to keep the village looking fantastic.
Roger Jones, Chair of KAG, welcomed the support and said:
“On behalf of the whole community, I’d like to say a huge thank you to Wales & West Utilities for their generous donation, which supported our efforts.
“Thanks to the donation we have been able to develop the bank quicker than we anticipated, and it’s wonderful to see the area thriving. The plants look wonderful, and they’re also attracting more wildlife.”
Stacy Griffiths, Wales & West Utilities Corporate Environment Lead, added:
“Pollinator plants are fantastic for the environment and wildlife as well as working to improve green spaces, and we are thrilled that we’ve been able to further enhance the biodiversity in Kingkerswell.”
