Wales & West Utilities is shortly starting a five-week project to upgrade gas pipes in the Ham Drive in Plymouth.
The gas emergency and pipeline service is starting the work on 28 July and, barring any engineering difficulties, it will finish by 29 August. The works are essential to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations.
After liaising with Plymouth City Council to plan the work, it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place throughout. This includes:
Phase 1 (28 July – 6 August)
- Directional road closure on Ham Drive, from the junction of Outland Road to Camilla Terrace. The middle lane will be closed to traffic travelling onto Outland Road eastbound
- Road closure on Camilla Terrace, from the junction of Ham Drive to 2 Camilla Terrace
- Lane closure on Outland Road heading southbound from Torr Lane to the junction of Ham Drive. There will be no right-hand turn onto Ham Drive and no left-hand turn onto Ham Drive from Outland Road heading northbound
- Parking suspension on Carnock Road and St Pancras Avenue
Phase 2 (6 – 29 August)
- Inside lane closure on Outland Road southbound from the rear of 52 Chestnut Road to 204 Outland Road, whilst traffic won’t be able to take a left-hand turn onto Western Park Road
- Western Park Road - the right-hand turn lane will be closed onto Outland Road
Wales & West Utilities Natalie Raphael is managing this work and said:
We have been working with the Plymouth City Council to plan these essential works.
We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Plymouth. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
