Final phase of Holt gas upgrade work to begin

Wales & West Utilities is starting the final section of work, which will bring the large majority of the project to upgrade over 2,000 metres of gas pipes in the Melksham Road area of Holt to a close.
The £415,000 investment work started in March and is essential to keep the gas flowing safely and reliably to local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations to come.
The section of work will take place between 27 October – 7 November and will involve a road closure on Melksham Road, between the junctions of Gipsy Lane and East Lane.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has liaised with Wiltshire Council to plan the project. A further section of work in The Street / Ham Green area will be required at a later date, but this is yet to be planned.
Wales & West Utilities Simon Lee is managing this work and said:
“We are pleased that this final phase of work will largely bring this project to a close and would like to thank the community for bearing with us.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it really is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport hydrogen and biomethane, so we can all play our part in a green future.”
