Final phase of gas upgrade work gets underway in Kingston St. Mary

Posted: 18/03/2026

Wales & West Utilities is starting the final phase of its £951,000 project to upgrade gas pipes in the Kingston Road area of Kingston St. Mary.

The gas emergency and pipeline service started the project last March, and the project is on track to finish by 21 April . The project is essential to keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations.

As part of the final phase of work, it has been agreed with Somerset County Council that a road closure will be in place on Kingston Road, at its junction with Hope Corner Lane, between 30 March – 21 April.

Wales & West Utilities Roxanne Whittaker is managing this work and said:

“This section of work will bring our overall project on Kingston Road to a close, and we’d like to thank the local community for bearing with us whilst engineers have been working in the area.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Somerset. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”
