Essential gas works in Penzance on track for December finish
Posted: 20/11/2025

Essential work to upgrade the gas mains in Penzance is progressing well and is on track to finish by 1 December.

Wales & West Utilities has been working to install new gas pipes in the area, ensuring the local community continues to receive a safe and reliable supply of gas for decades to come, and is now in the final few weeks of the project.

To keep pedestrians, motorists, and engineers safe, road closures are currently in place on Market Jew Street, from its junction with Adelaide Street, heading along Market Place onto The Greenmarket and Causeway Head. The road closure continues along Alverton Street to its junction with Clarence Street, and has now been extended up Clarence Street to its junction with Causeway Lane.  The additional closure is essential to ensure the works can be completed.  All closures remain in place until 1 December.

Wales & West Utilities Natalie Raphael is managing this work and said:

“We’d like to thank the local community for their patience and understanding whilst we undertake this important work, and are delighted to report that we are on track to finish this project by 1 December.

“We understand that our work can cause disruption, especially where it involves a road closure and diversion route, and we would like to thank everyone in the area for bearing with us while we are carrying out the work.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
