Essential gas upgrade work to start on Nantgarw Road

Wales & West Utilities will be starting a project next month to upgrade gas pipes in Nantgarw Road and Crescent Road in Caerphilly.
The gas emergency and pipeline service will start the essential work on 8 September and, barring any engineering difficulties, it is expected to be completed before Christmas. The works will keep the gas flowing safely to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations.
The gas emergency and pipeline service has worked with Caerphilly County Borough Council to plan the work, and it has been agreed that Nantgarw Road will be closed while work is ongoing. Wales & West Utilities understands the impact this work will have on visitors to the town centre, and is funding a Stagecoach shuttle bus during the closure period to ensure the service continues.
Wales & West Utilities Andrew Coleman is managing this work and said:
“We have worked closely with the Council to minimise impact on visitors to the town, especially in the lead up to Christmas.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future. We’ll have a team of gas engineers on site throughout the project to make sure our work is completed as safely and as quickly as possible while keeping disruption to a minimum.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the wider Caerphilly area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”
