Essential gas upgrade work progresses in Kingston St. Mary

Posted: 17/09/2025

Wales & West Utilities is progressing well with its £951,000 project to upgrade gas pipes in the Kingston Road area of Kingston St. Mary.

The gas emergency and pipeline service started the project in March, and is on track to complete it in November. The works are essential to keep the gas flowing reliably to heat and power local homes and businesses, keeping people warm for generations.

As part of the next phase of work, it has been agreed that traffic management will be in place, which includes:

  • A closure on the mill cross junction between 15 - 24 September (Kingston Road, Parsonage Lane and Cheddon Fitzpaine Road). During this time, a one-way system will be in place via Church Lane and Lodes Lane
  • A road closure on Church Lane (29 September – 13 October)
  • A road closure on Greenway, Yarford Road and Parsonage Lane, at the Greenway end section only (13 October – 5 December)

Wales & West Utilities has worked with Somerset County Council to plan the work.

Wales & West Utilities Roxanne Whittaker is managing this work and said:

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across Somerset. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.”
