Devizes Road gas works complete

Work to upgrade part of the gas network in the Devizes Road area of Swindon has finished, and all traffic management has been removed.
The £120,000 investment project, undertaken by Wales & West Utilities, has drawn to a close, and the gas emergency and pipeline service is thanking the local community for their cooperation and support throughout the project.
Wales & West Utilities' Mick Gallavin managed the upgrade work and said:
“We’d like to thank the local community for bearing with us whilst we completed this essential work.
“The project has seen great partnerships throughout, and we have worked closely with the Old Town Business Association and local traders to minimise the impact of the important work. Whilst the work was essential, and traffic management was in place throughout, we hope the local community has enjoyed the number of sponsored events that have seen the town thrive on several Sundays with outdoor dining, live music, and lots of new activity.”
The gas emergency and pipeline service began the project in July, which was vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area, helping to keep people warm for decades to come.
Mick continued:
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England. We don’t sell gas; we transport it through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes.
