Crediton gas upgrade work progresses

Posted: 06/11/2025

Wales & West Utilities is progressing well with its work to upgrade the gas pipes in Crediton.

The project, which started last month, is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come. Providing everything goes to plan, this work will be completed during April next year.

Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Devon County Council, and as part of the next phase of work, traffic management will be in place. This includes:

  • Two-way traffic lights on High Street and Union Road, whilst a closure will be in place on Union Terrace / Park Street to its junction with Barnfield Road (17 November – 12 December)
  • Union Terrace / Park Street will remain closed until 30 January 2026
  • Following this work will continue with two and three-way traffic lights along Park Street and Park Road, whilst there will be a parking suspension from Barnfield Junction to Dokkum Road (until 14 April)
  • Park Road will be closed during the school holidays to minimise impact to motorists (13 – 22 February and 27 March – 12 April)

Wales & West Utilities' Roxanne Whittaker is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
