Crediton gas upgrade work postponed until summer
Wales & West Utilities is postponing the remainder of its work to upgrade the gas pipes in Crediton after experiencing engineering difficulties.
The project, which started last October, was due to finish next month but engineering difficulties, due to the location of the gas pipe in Park Road, has meant the final section of work will now be carried out in the school summer holidays.
The project is vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come.
Wales & West Utilities has worked closely with Devon County Council to plan the project and it is anticipated that the final section of work in the summer will involve a closure on Park Road.
Wales & West Utilities' Roxanne Whittaker is managing this gas pipe upgrade work and said:
“Unfortunately the location of the gas pipe on Park Road means that we have taken the decision to postpone the final section of work. We will ensure that the local community is kept informed about future work, planned for the summer holidays.
“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.
“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.
“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
