Chard gas upgrade project completes on time
Wales & West Utilities has completed its essential work to upgrade the gas network in the Old Town area of Chard, on time.
The work, which began in August, was vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area, helping to keep people warm for decades to come. The gas emergency and pipeline service liaised with Somerset Council to plan the project, and traffic management was in place throughout.
The company has also been working in the Furnham Road area, alongside Wessex Water, and is returning between 24 – 30 October to complete the project. During this time, Furnham Road will be closed between Beeching Close and Thorndun Park Drive, which includes the junction of Chaffcombe Road, where there will be no access onto Furnham Road.
Wales & West Utilities Roxanne Whittaker managed this gas pipe upgrade work and said:

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. “This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
