Blaenau Gwent gas upgrade work to complete ahead of major road resurfacing programme

Posted: 12/02/2026

Wales & West Utilities will start preliminary work next week to upgrade the gas pipes in the Beaufort Road area of Tredegar ahead of the local authority’s major road resurfacing project.

The work is being carried out at the request of Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council, which is coordinating efforts with utilities ahead of its work to improve and resurface the road.

It has been agreed with the Council that the work will be ongoing until July and during this time traffic management will be in place. This includes:

  • Temporary traffic lights on the A4048 and A407 (23 February – 19 April)
  • A road closure on Beaufort Road to the Dukestown Road link bridge (30 March – 19 April)

The works are vital to ensuring gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area - helping to keep people warm for decades to come.

Wales & West Utilities Andrew Coleman is managing this work and said:

“We are working with the Council to complete these essential works ahead of their programme.

“We know that working in areas like this is not ideal, but it is essential to make sure we keep the gas flowing to homes and businesses in the area, and to make sure the gas network is fit for the future.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of this community. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work is essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”
