Wales & West Utilities is thanking local residents and businesses in Cheddar for their patience as work to upgrade the gas network in the Draycott Road area of Cheddar has finished ahead of schedule.

The gas emergency and pipeline service began the complex work on 1 September and liaised closely with Somerset Council, whilst members of the local community provided valuable input to planning the scheme.

The work was vital to ensuring that gas continues to flow safely and reliably to homes and businesses across the area, helping to keep people warm for decades to come.

Wales & West Utilities' Simon Lee managed the work and said:

“This project was extremely complex due to the nature of the surrounding road network and so we’re delighted to finish this project a week ahead of schedule.

“We would like to thank the local community for their understanding whilst we worked to upgrade the gas network to ensure it remains safe, reliable and fit for the future for the customers we serve.

“While most of the gas network is underground and out of sight, it plays a central role in the daily lives of people across the area. Whether it’s heating your home, making the family dinner, or having a hot bath, we understand how important it is for your gas supply to be safe and reliable and there when you need it.

“This work was essential to keep the gas flowing to local homes and businesses today, and to make sure the gas network is ready to transport green gases in the future.”

Wales & West Utilities is the gas emergency and pipeline service, delivering energy to over 7.5 million people across Wales and the south west of England. We don’t sell gas; we transport it through an extensive underground network of more than 35,000 kilometres of pipes.

If you smell gas or suspect carbon monoxide, call the National Gas Emergency number on 0800 111 999 immediately. Trained engineers are available 24/7 to respond and keep you safe.
