Wales & West Utilities is progressing with its £360,000 investment project to upgrade the gas pipes in the Chalford area of Stroud.
The main section of the project, which starts on 16 November, will see over 1,700 metres of gas pipes upgraded. All going to plan it will be complete during February next year.
The gas emergency and pipeline service continues to work with Gloucestershire County Council regarding the project, and the following road closures have been agreed:
- Abnash (16 – 27 November)
- Marle Hill (23 November – 18 December)
- Dark Lane, Skiveralls and Commercial Road (4 January – 12 February)
Diversion routes will be clearly signposted, and motorists are advised to allow extra time for travel.
The project is part of Wales & West Utilities wider work to invest over £7.5 million during the next two years to upgrade gas pipes across Gloucestershire. The intensive programme of wider mains replacement works will see nearly 26 kilometres of gas pipes upgraded across the area as the company upgrades the critical energy infrastructure in the area to benefit approximately 2,600 local customers.
Wales & West Utilities’ Ryan Barkway is managing the programme and said:
"We'll be keeping the local community updated on these works and working with the local authority, and other key partners, to keep disruption to a minimum. We ask motorists to strictly follow the traffic management signage to keep the traffic flowing, and our colleagues safe as they complete this work.
“We understand our work can cause disruption, but it is essential to maintain a resilient gas network that households and business can rely on every day. While much of the gas network is out of sight, it plays a vital role in daily life – from heating homes to cooking meals and we know how important it is that gas is there when people need it.”
