Wales & West Utilities is postponing its works in the Dartmouth Road area of Galmpton.

Works to upgrade the gas pipes in the area started on 14th September, but will be delayed until October half term due to the unforeseen limitations to pedestrian access on the footway between Greenway Road and Manor Vale Road.

Dartmouth Road will be cleared by Wednesday 23 September and the road closures on Manor Vale Road and Warborough Road will be lifted shortly after.

The gas distribution network plan to return to commence work on Dartmouth Road from 4pm on 23 October working during school half term.

So works can be carried out safely and efficiently, Greenway Road and Warborough Road will be closed from 4pm on 23 October to 1 November.

WWU will return to its planned works on Dartmouth Road during half term and the following traffic management will be in place from 23 October:

  • Rolling two-way traffic lights will be in place on Dartmouth Road between Manor Vale Road and Greenway Road
  • Road closures on Greenway Road and Warborough Road.
  • Footpath closure on Dartmouth Road, Pedestrian diversion route via Manor Vale Road and Greenway Road.
  • During this phase of work, traffic lights will be manned 12 hours a day, seven days a week

All going to plan, this section of work is now due to finish on 1 November.

Wales & West Utilities’, Abby Smith, is managing the works. She said:

"We have been working in the Dartmouth Road area of Galmpton as part of our wider program of mains replacement works, which is vital to keep the community safe and warm for decades to come.

“Due to unforeseen challenges with the programme, we have decided to postpone the project until October half term.

“When we return we are aiming to finish that section in half the time so the area can reopen for term time.

“We will continue to work closely with the Highways Authority to minimise the impact on traffic flows and appreciate the cooperation of the community during this time."
